Read on for details of how the EMu Electronic Museum management system helps you with:
EMu manages all aspects of your collection from accessioning and deaccessioning through to incoming and outgoing loans, shipments, location tracking and internal movements, valuations, insurance and indemnity, and more.
EMu has evolved over three decades of development in compliance with industry standards for museum documentation, in particular Collections Trust's SPECTRUM standard. Standards are the strong foundation on which EMu is built, but they are simply that, a foundation. Working hand in hand with museum professionals, EMu's developers have produced a full-featured collections management system with functionality that far exceeds anything described by even the most comprehensive standards.
EMu helps you conserve your collection with comprehensive conservation and condition check documentation, integrated pest management, and more.
EMu lets you record details about the conditions within which each object should be stored and displayed. EMu’s Condition Check facility documents an object’s condition, its historical conditions and the future schedule of condition checks. Conservation work on collection objects can be scheduled and monitored, capturing examination details, a description of the damage or other reason for conservation treatment, details of the treatments performed, the results of those treatments and any associated costs.
EMu also has an integrated pest management subsystem, tracking pests captured in traps within the museum, highlighting danger areas and sources of infestations.
EMu supports your research endeavour in numerous innovative ways, but in particular by enabling you to document what there is to know about your objects, to organize this information, report on it and aggregate it. It's on this strong foundation that EMu then facilitates your interpretation of the facts.
Fully integrated with EMu is an extensive Multimedia Management System. EMu’s multimedia repository, which complies with the Dublin Core Metadata Standard, is fully integrated so that any record, whether for an object in the Catalogue, a person in the Parties module, an event or a loan, can incorporate multimedia resources. EMu supports the full range of digital assets from images to video to documents. Derivatives can be generated on demand and any of these assets or their derived resolutions, formats or file types can be published as required.
If research covers what we know about the objects, interpretation covers what we think might be true about the object, its significance and place in history. EMu helps you interpret your collection, capturing the knowledge of your experts. EMu makes it a simple matter for users to author narratives about objects in the collection, drawing together diverse elements: objects, sites, people, multimedia resources, events, etc. Narratives can be developed for specific audiences (primary school children, researchers, the general public, and so on) and for a range of purposes, such as exhibition overviews, wall labels, brochures, and web-based stories.
EMu supports your public engagement efforts in numerous ways, from exhibition management to your presence on the web.
EMu publishes your collection on the web with the integrated IMu Internet Museum system. Through IMu it is a simple matter to provide online access to those records you choose to publish. IMu is EMu's strategy and toolset for publishing your content on the web and your Intranet, for use on desktop computers, in-house kiosks and on mobile devices for a whole range of uses.
